How to Use the Consent Mode Checker

The Consent Mode Checker is a free online tool that scans any website to verify its Google Consent Mode V2 implementation. It generates a detailed audit report covering CMP detection, consent API availability, and Google Consent Mode signal status.

How to Use

Step 1: Enter Your Website URL

Go to the Consent Mode Checker page and enter your website URL in the input field. You can enter just the domain (e.g., example.com) or the full URL (e.g., https://example.com). The tool will automatically add https:// if no protocol is specified.

Step 2: Start the Scan

Click the Check Consent Mode button to start the scan. The tool will analyze your website and display a progress bar while scanning. Keep the page open during the scan.

Step 3: Review the Report

Once the scan is complete, a Consent Mode V2 Audit Report is generated. The report includes the following:

Overall Status Banner

At the top of the report, a status banner shows the overall result:

  • Passed (green) — Consent Mode is properly implemented
  • Warning (yellow) — Partially implemented or needs attention
  • Error (red) — Not detected or misconfigured

The banner also indicates whether UniConsent CMP was detected on the page.

Feature Cards

The report displays feature cards in a grid, each showing whether a specific feature is active:

  • Consent Mode Default Stub — Whether default consent values are set before Google tags load
  • Google Tags Loading Order — Whether Google tags are loaded in the correct order (not set late)
  • IAB TCF API — Whether the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework API (__tcfapi) is available
  • IAB GPP API — Whether the IAB Global Privacy Platform API (__gpp) is available

Each card shows a status of Active, Correct, Not found, or Error with a corresponding color indicator (green, yellow, or red).

Issues Found

If the scan detects any problems, an Issues Found section lists specific error messages with details about what needs to be fixed. Error messages may include links to relevant resources.

Understanding the Results

All Green (Passed)

Your website has a properly configured CMP with Google Consent Mode V2 fully implemented. No action is needed.

Warning or Error Items

If the report shows warning or error items, consider the following:

  • UniConsent CMP not detected — You need to install a Consent Management Platform such as UniConsent. See the tag installation guide to get started.
  • Consent Mode Default Stub not found — Default consent values are not set before Google tags load. Your CMP may not support Google Consent Mode, or it is not configured correctly. UniConsent supports Google Consent Mode out of the box. See the Google Consent Mode guide for setup instructions.
  • Google Tags Loading Order error — Google consent defaults were set too late. Make sure the CMP script loads before any Google tags.
  • IAB TCF API or GPP API not found — Your CMP may not support TCF or GPP APIs. UniConsent supports all major consent frameworks. See the TCF integration guide and GPP integration guide.

Recent Scans

The tool automatically saves your recent scans in your browser's local storage (up to 10 entries). You can click on any previous scan to load its URL into the input field for a quick re-check. History is stored locally and is not sent to any server.

Printing the Report

After a scan is complete, click the Print Report button at the bottom of the report to save it as a PDF or print it for your records.
