Switch from Consentmo in four steps

Consent records stay with the CMP that collected them, so the switch starts with keeping a copy of your Consentmo records.

  1. Export your Consentmo consent records. On the Plus and Max plans Consentmo lets you download consent records as CSV. Keep the file for as long as your retention policy requires. It is your proof for consents given before the switch.
  2. Install UniConsent. Add Cookie Consent by UniConsent from the Shopify App Store and follow the Shopify setup guide. Consent Categories (for advertisers) is the quickest setup for most stores.
  3. Remove Consentmo. Turn off the Consentmo app embed in your theme editor and remove any Consentmo code left in your theme or Google Tag Manager, so only one banner runs.
  4. Check the result. In Shopify admin go to Settings > Customer Privacy and confirm the banner regions, then test your store with the Consent Mode checker.

What to check before installing any consent app

A consent app runs on every page of your store, so it is worth a few minutes of checks, whichever app you choose.

  1. Permissions. Read the access the app asks for when you install it, and question anything beyond what a consent banner needs.
  2. Publisher. Check who builds the app, where it is based and whether it is a certified CMP on the IAB Europe CMP list and Google’s certified CMP list.
  3. Pixels and checkout. Review Settings > Customer events and your checkout settings, and remove pixels or scripts you don’t recognise.
  4. Leftover code. After removing any app, check your theme and tag manager for code it left behind.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Consentmo not in the Shopify App Store?

Shopify has not published a reason. The Consentmo listing says the app is not currently available and that merchants with support questions should contact Consentmo directly. Hundreds of apps were removed from the App Store in October 2026.

Can I move my Consentmo consent records to UniConsent?

Consent records can’t be moved between CMPs as live consents. Export your Consentmo records as CSV and keep them as proof for consents given before the switch. UniConsent records every new choice from the day you install it.

Will returning visitors see the banner again after switching?

Yes. Each CMP stores choices in its own cookie, so returning visitors are asked once more after the switch.

Does UniConsent work with Shopify checkout and Shopify’s own tracking?

Yes. UniConsent connects to the Shopify Customer Privacy API, which Shopify uses to apply consent to its own analytics and to pixels on the storefront and checkout. See the Shopify Consent Mode v2 guide.

How much does UniConsent cost for a Shopify store?

UniConsent is free for up to 50,000 users per month, with IAB TCF included. Paid plans start at £20/mo. See pricing.
