Why Consent Logs Matter

Under the EU GDPR and UK GDPR, the burden of proof sits with the data controller. If you cannot demonstrate that a user gave valid consent before their data was processed, you cannot rely on consent as a lawful basis. A consent banner records a moment; an audit trail records a history.

Consent audit logs are also relevant outside of enforcement. DSARs (Data Subject Access Requests) frequently ask what consents a specific user has given and when. Advertising audits may require evidence that consent signals were properly captured before data was passed to third parties. Structured, queryable records make both straightforward.

What the Consent Audit Trail Captures

Every consent event recorded by the UniConsent CMP is logged with:

• Consent event type: accept, reject, partial consent, or withdrawal
• Timestamp: immutable record of when the event occurred
• Consent scope: which purposes, vendors, or categories were accepted or declined
• User action history: the full sequence of consent changes for a given user over time

Records are immutable once written. They cannot be altered after the fact.

Authenticated User ID Search

On sites where users log in, you can link consent records to your own user IDs and search by them directly. That makes it straightforward to pull a complete consent history for a specific account when responding to a DSAR or resolving a dispute, including changes made across multiple sessions and devices.

Real-Time Log Querying and Export

Consent records are queryable in real time through the UniConsent dashboard. You can filter by date range, consent type, or user ID without waiting for a batch export.

Export is available in CSV and JSON. CSV covers spreadsheet-based review and regulatory submissions; JSON integrates with your own data warehouse or compliance tooling.

Capacity and Pricing

The Consent Audit Trail is available as an add-on to any UniConsent plan:

• £20 per site per month, or £200 per year
• Covers up to 100,000 users per month per site

Getting Started

Log in to your UniConsent dashboard, navigate to Add-ons, and select Consent Audit Trail. The add-on activates per site, so you can enable it selectively for the properties where audit logging is required.
